Motorcycle Repair: 1971 Triumph Tiger, triumph tiger, fuel valve

Question
Falcon,

I've got a '71 Triumph Tiger (single carburetor) that I rebuilt a couple of years ago.  It ran fine when I started it this spring, then it lost power, wouldn't rev over 3000 rpm, and eventually died.  While this was happening, fuel ran out the air filter.  I replaced the plugs (they looked a little rich), checked the carb, and pulled and cleaned the fuel valve.  Everything looked fine.  Any ideas?

Answer
Hi Palmer.
Start with the possibility that the carb may need a proper cleaning from sitting in storage.  That's one thing.  You should also look at the state of the air filter.  If it is due, or overdue for changing, then that may well be a contributing factor as well.

Start with that and let me know what you find.
Good luck.
