Motorcycle Repair: Custom Harley dies -electrical problem, dry cell battery, custom harley

Question
I have a 1996 custom harley w/6800 miles. 96in SS motor. Odyessey dry-cell battery (1yr old) maintained through out winter. Fully charged battery runs for 3 days back & forth to work. Twice it has just died, left me stranded & won't crank. I take it home, voltmeter reads 10v. Charge again, test w/voltmeter 12.75v, start bike & test while at idle- reads 13.25v, with a little rev of throttle-reads 14.25v. Battery will take & hold a charge for days without use. I had a wideglide & had the same problem years ago. I had to replace the finned box by the oil filter that sits out in front of the engine at 7500 miles. I can't remember the name of it. Rectifier/regulator?
Are they good for only 7500 miles? Battery tests good (even a load test), but something is wrong. Please point me in the right direction to start. Thanks in advance-Rob

Answer
WELL BOB YOUR REGULATOR/RECTIFER IS WORKING IF YOU ARE GETTING A CHARGE AT THE BATTERY, I WOULD START BY REPLACING THE 3 BATTERY CABLES WITH NEW, YOU HAVE ONE TO THE POSITIVE AND ONE TO THE FRAME AND THEN TO THE BATTERY NEGATIVE AND ONE TO THE FRAME AND TO THE STARTER WHERE IT BOLTS TO THE INNER PRIMARY. YOU NEED 2 GROUNDS .   JOHNNY
