I just built, from scratch, a softail rubber mount, 5 speed tranny, with a 113 CI, EVO type, S&S SA motor. I just put it on the road. The eng has only 200 miles on it. The problem is I get a vibration thats most pronounce at 2600 - 2900 rpm, and even more when you back off the throttle. I loosened up the primary chain a little and it seemed to help. It didn't looked like I needed any engine mount shims when I installed the engine, so I just bolted it down. I checked them with a feeler gauge. Any suggestion would be appreciated. Please list all possible causes.
THANKS BOB

S&S DOES A VERY BAD JOB OF BALANCING THERE MOTORS, I TAKE NEW S&S MOTORS AND REBALANCE THEM AT 57%  NOT 60% LIKE THE DO. AND THE MOTORS ARE MUCH SMOOTHER      JOHNNY
Hi Johnny
Thanks for your help. It sure sounds like you know what your doing. I know your probably a very busy guy, but maybe I can go in another direction instead of yanking the motor out. I took the primary off because I was going to try a Balance Master setup. I thought that might help. That's when I remembered I didn't have a compensating sprocket. When I first went to the bike shop to get a compensating sprocket the guy told me with that motor I didn,t need one. He said" direct drive is the way to go". So I put only an engine sprocket on. Could not having an engine sprocket cause vibration? Come to think of it that's the same guy who told me I didn't need compression releases. When I first bought the motor at another bike place the guy casually mentioned compression releases. So I took the heads over to MR. No Compensator Sprocket and he said that I didn't need them, just a good battery. So after 3 increasing stronger batteries and 2 increasing stronger starters, I took the heads off and had compression releases installed. So my questions are could no compensator cause excessive vibration and have you ever used any of the Balance Master products, and if so which one would be your first choice?
Thanks loads bob

Answer
Hi Bob
The balance Master products just flat out DONT WORK!!!!!
I would install a compensator sprocket on your motor and also a M6 Chain tensioner will help alot. Every bike I owned since 1988 I have install Decompression valves In both heads and now I install 2 decompression valves in each head, use stock battery and starter.  JOHNNY  602-705-7474
