Motorcycle Repair: Air Filter Element soaked in oil., air filter element, beagle

Question
Was doing a checkup of everything on my 02 sporty, when I checked the Air filter element, I noticed the filter was saturated with oil. What could cause this? Haven't had any trouble as far as starting or stalling on me.

the head breathers run into the air/filter backing plate. Install a screaming beagle hi-flow air/filter and run the breather hose down to the frame and out the back and zip tie it to the frame. Do not go to the backing plate of the new air/filter  JOHNNY
