my temp light has started flikering on and off. i checked the reserve tank is full. is there a thermostat that could be bad? and where is it?

Hi Gregg.
 It could be a sticking thermostat, or your fluid level could be low.  That "reserve" tank is actually an overflow tank.  When it's full, the excess will begin dumping out of the bike through the drain in that tank.

The thermostat will be at or near the inlet side of the radiator.  Most likely the right side.  It will be on the hose coming into the top part of the radiator in a metal housing that will have a wire connected to it.  That wire is your heat sensor line.

Proceedures for removal and testing the thermostat are in your repair manual.
