Motorcycle Repair: Fuel problems on 95 Suzuki Intruder 1400, suzuki intruder, intruder 1400

Question
The problem i am having is on a VS 1400 GLP Intruder 1995 with 10,600 miles. I have had a bad experiance with this bike since i purchased it in 2000. It all started shortly after i bought it, if i would let sit for a few days, it would'nt start. When i drained the carb bowls, i found water or condersation. Afterwards it started. The problem continued, even after draining the tank and many tank refills. It got to the point where it would die while i was riding it, and i would drain the bowls, i dont think i found water every time but it would start afterwards.I put alcohol in in the tank, which caused a repair on the tank (i did'nt know about)to leak. Around the same time i repaired a flat on the rear, which i think i caused a clicking sound in the drive train. So sometime in 2001 I parked the P.O.S. untill last month i pull the bike out put a new tank on it, new battery, but no gas to carbs. Pulled off fuel line from pump to carb, turned motor over, no gas untill i let off starter, then 2 squirts of gas, the same thing happened each time i tried. I took the the pump to the dealer, they hooked it to a battery and said it was good. Put it on bike the same thing happened. Checked fuse it was good. Took fuel pump relay to dealership they said they could'nt check it, it was either good or bad, bought a new one and have the same results. I have a Clymer repair book but it makes checking electrical parts sound really complicated with a special meter and controlled temp. And i can forget getting free advise from the dealership. The only history i know before i got it, is that it had straight pipes put on it, carbs rejetted, front 122, rear 140.   Any Advise? Thanks John.

Answer
Hi John,

The carbs will need to be removed and thoroughly cleaned. There may be additional work to be performed. The fuel pump and solenoid seems to be working properly as described.
