Motorcycle Repair: carbeurator jets, exhaust pipes, gas mileage

Question
hi southie,i'm getting ready to change my stock exhaust pipes to something more throaty sounding and was told by my neighbor,he ain't no expert either, that it would involve changing my jets in the carb. any truth to this and if so why? is it something i could do myself? oh it would help if i told you what bike  were talking about wouldn't it.itsa 1998 evo road king, obviosly carbeurated no other work done on the motor.

Answer
that all depends on what exhaust system you are going to install. you can install a exhaust system that jetting wont ever help. just because it look nice and sound nice and the manufacture says they work good does not mean that they do. Most exhaust systems are total blipping JUNK. you tell me what exhaust system you would like to install and i will tell you how bad your bike is going to run and how no one on the planet can get it jetted correctly. or you can just ask me to tell you what exhaust system to run that will give you awsome horse power and torque across the entire power band and will be able to jet the carb correctly and get great gas mileage and look and sound good. and is made good.
