Motorcycle Repair: Four-wheeler, honda recon 250, bolw

Question
My son owns a 1999 Honda Recon 250.
He started having trouble a few weeks back. It seems it is not getting gas to start up. Smell of gas indicates flooding. Choke seems to work. Also there is a hose coming from the carburator bottom that hangs connected to nothing and another from carburator side that lays on top of tank under seat connected to nothing. At times both of these hoses allow gas to squirt from them. Yesterday I did get it started but with gas pressed fully on it would not allow engine to reve up to full potental
How to I start locating problem and solution
Thanks

Answer
Hi Reggie,

I suspect the gas in the float bolw is either contaminated or has varnished. The carburetor should be removed and inspected. If either is found, thoroughly clean the carb.

The hoses mentioned is a overflow drain hose and a atmospheric vent for the float bowl. These hoses should be unobstructed and routed as found.

Send me an email as requested. I'll return carb cleaning files to assist you with repairs.
