Motorcycle Repair: 1992 CBR 600 F2 factory suspension settings, factory suspension, suspension settings

Question
Hi.  I have a 1992 CBR 600 F2 and the suspension settings front and rear are all out of whack (bought the bike used) and I'm looking for info on the factory front fork preload (how many turns out from all the way in) and rear spring preload and rebound settings.  I've been playing with it all and keeping a log but just cant seem to get the bugger dialed in.  I've consulted all my manuals and the local Honda dealer to no avail so any help you may be able to give me will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!  :)

Answer
Hi Chris,

Suspension setting are rider, bike, and track dependent. What works for one rider may not be right for you. And contrany to popular belief, stiffer is not better. Set the sag to your weight with your gear on. Then depending on how the bike rides adjust the rebound and compression. You want the compression just stiff enough to prevent bottoming, and the rebound just stiff enough to prevent wallowing. This will get you in the ball park. Make minor adjustments based on how the bike feels.

Stock:

Rear:
Preload: 4 of 9
Rebound: 1.25 turns out from Full in
Compressions: 1 turn out from Full in

Front:
Preload: 4 Lines showing
Rebound: 1 out from full in
Compression: 1.5 Turns out from Full in

Modified Example:

Rear:
Preload: 7 of 9
Rebound: .75 turn from full in.
Compression: Full in, Clockwise.

Front:
Preload: 2 Lines Showing
Rebound: .5 Turn out from full in
Compression: .75 Turn out from Full in
