Motorcycle Repair: I have a 1983 honda goldwing..., 1983 honda goldwing, leak down test

Question
I have a 1983 honda goldwing with approx. 50,000 km.When I start the bike I get a lot of smoke coming out of one exhaust pipe.Is there a simple fix for this or would I have to take the head off and replace the rings.I have not checked the compression in the cylinders yet.The bike idles fine but I do notice that there is stillmore blue smoke out of the one pipe after it warms up.Any help  would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Robert Megahy

Answer
Hi Rob,

Sounds as if the rings/valve guides are worn. Theres no simple or inexpensive fix. If you perform a compression test, also perform a cylinder leak-down test. Leak-down may tell what exact part the problem lies by listening to escaping air past worn part.
