Motorcycle Repair: 2003 indian scout deluxe, clutch assembly, clutch plates

Question
I was riding a few weeks ago at highway speed. The bike just suddenly went into neutral. I pulled over to the side of the road. The bike will run, and the speedometer will move, but the bike is in neutral all the time. I pulled the primary cover and the clutch assembly looked  fine. I noticed that the front sprocket (directly behind the clutch plates?) was rubbing the inner primary cover...I am afraid that I have broken the main shaft from the tranny? does this sound right or could it be something simpler and hope to god cheaper. Again the bike will go through all the gears, but it will not move the rear tire. The engine is a stock S&S motor...the only mods are cosmetic.
Thanks for any help you can give

Answer
Remove the primary cover and jack the rear up on the bike so the tire is off the ground. Remove the spark plugs and put the bike in 5th gear. Rotate the rear tire and see if the clutch rotates. If it doesnt then you are going to have to remove the trans and see what the problem is inside it.
Hope this helps
Mike
