Motorcycle Repair: 82 Suzuki GS300LZ, engine cranks, screw terminals

Question
I just got this motorcycle. With a new battery I have tried to the following to get it started. connecting the battery as orginally intended. When I turn the key I get no power at all, no lights, horn, or starter. When connected directly to the starter the engine cranks just fine (I'm assuming without a spark) All wires and fuses appear to be in place. Overall this motorcyle appears to be in excellent shape. Thank you for your help.

Answer
Hi Ryan,

Check fuses with a multimeter or replace them with known good fuses. They may look normal and be defective. Check related wiring and wire connectors. Check all grounds and screw terminals for a tight, clean connection.

Check ignition switch and safety switches.
