Motorcycle Repair: Charging System 85 VT700c, charging system, battery cable

Hello I just got my 85 VT 700c and I placed a new battery cable and battery. I now know that it is my charging system. I think the alternator. I hooked up a VOM to the battery and read 12v when running 11.4 no diff when revving up the bike. How hard is it to repair or replace the alternator?

I think the task is fairly simple. It may vary for others with less experience.

I recommend purchasing a service manual prior to beginning repairs. The manual has the procedure and specs.
