Motorcycle Repair: replacing clutch cover bearings, 1990 kawasaki ex500, replacing clutch

Question
I am replacing the clutch cover on my 1990 Kawasaki EX500 and find the bearings and seal difficult to insert. Before I use a wooden dowel and hammer, I'm looking for alternatives. Any suggestions?

Thanks, Emily

Answer
Hi Emily,

Clean parts and lightly lube all.

Drive them in with a socket that fits the outter race of the bearing as closely as possible. Try to keep bearing and seal square or level while installing. Tap them home.

You can try the wooden dowel. If results are poor, use metal.
