Motorcycle Repair: Smoky exhaust after 2 days unridden, suzuki ap50 scooter, combustion chamber

Question
Suzuki AP50 scooter (uk restrictions). If i ride the scooter every day, no problems. But if i then have a break ( a weekend off work say) upon starting up, the exhaust is quite smoky for the first few hundred yards then clears and remains clear if i ride every day. what could be the problem ?

Answer
Hi Vic,

Pistons are forged or cast kind of oblong shaped. Cylinders are bored true round. Pistons and rings don't seal optimum until metal expands with increase of temperature. The pistons grow round-like to better fit the cylinder at operating temperatures. Only rings actually touch cylinder walls, but piston's lands and grooves help rings seal.

Together with the above, residule unburned oil/fuel mix left in the combustion chamber on shut-down and fresh mix on start up cause the excessive smoking you notice.

It's normal especially with higher milage MC's.

P.S. My family is from Manchester County, London, UK.
