Motorcycle Repair: Alternator, jumper cables, honda rebel

Question
Mark, I just bought a used 1986 Honda Rebel with only 3000 miles on it, it ran fine except that the battery was completely dead.  I had to jump it every time i wanted to ride.  Heres the Problem, I wasnt paying attention to the jumper cables, switched the charges from the jumper cables by putting the negative on the positive (stupid) and now even that I have a new battery charged and ready to go, I get nothing when I try to start it.  It  ran fine until I screwed it up, and Im so angry cause all I want to do is ride.  Whats the problem, is it the Alternator? and how do i fix it?

Answer
Hi Baker,

Crossed polarity when jump starting may cause damages. You'll have to trace the circuits and components checking all until you find defective parts(s), if any.

I cannot say what part is bad. You must find it or pay someone to find it for you.

Hope you can ride soon.

Respectfully,
