Motorcycle Repair: oil changing, bolt head, gear oil

Question
does a 4 stroke need motor oil and gear oil.  If so on a 2001 yzf 250 where do you drain motor oil and gear oil and where do you add it?

Answer
Hi Jessy.
With the axception of Harley-Davidson, I do not know of any motorcycles, produced in the past 20 years, that have a seperate oil for the transmission.

The oil drain is always at the lowest point on the motor, underneath the bike.  It will be a large bolt head all by itself, sometimes set in a quite noticeable spot.

As far as the filler, there is normally access on the high side (right side) of the engine.  Either foreward or after the area of cylinders.  The exact locations and quantities of lubricants are shown in the repair manual, along with all of the specs, measurements and whatnot that you may ever want (or not want) to know about your bike.

Good luck.
