Motorcycle Repair: 71 kawasaki h1a -no spark, high tension wires, light beam

Question
i picked up a 71 h1a 6 months ago.i have it all back together but cant get any spark.i have spare cdi boxes , coils, and a spare pickup ignitor.i have tried them all with no luck.i seem to be getting a pulse from the pick up but nothing at the first cdi box.do you have any suggestions of what to look for?

Answer
Kirk,
It's very possible that both ignition modules are bad.  Be absolutly sure your plug is good and that your plug wire and cap have good contact.  I've experienced good plugs and coils failing to transmit because of poor/loose high tension wires.  Obviously check contact at low tension leads as well.  Be sure your pick up sensors are clean an not obstucted (I can't remember if they used a light beam or a magnet, either way, debris and grime can impede the signal)  Unfortunatly you won't be able to test the module w/o the proper testing equipment but if you are positive one works you may have a short somewhere in your ignition system or a malfuntioning stator.
