Motorcycle Repair: I have a 1987 KZ 1000 P6...., kz 1000, clutch adjustment

Question
I have a 1987 KZ 1000 P6. The clutch either slips or will not disengage, with a new cable installed. The adjusting screw only has about a quarter turn in either direction. Both the center and lever adjustment screws have to be turned most of the way out to take enough slack out of the cable. Does the cable end on the clutch adjutment cam go to the top or the bottom of the case?

Answer
Hi Randy.
As I recall, the cable end of the clutch adjustment cam, as with most dual adjustable cables, goes at the clutchbasket end.  The problem that you are having may be in the clutchbasket.  Your repair manual has all of the specs for the clutch components.  I suspect that the clutch has never been rebuilt and may need it.  That would cause the problems that you are experiencing.

Check it out and see what you find.
Good luck.
