Motorcycle Repair: Fuel Tank, inch holes, rust free

Question
Hey Chris.  What's up.

My fuel tank is really rusty inside.  I'm told that the KREEM treatments don't really work and can do more harm than good, but I don't want to spend $100 or more getting the tank professionaly treated.  It's an old bike that I don't plan on keeping but a few more years anyway (88 Yamaha YX600).  What is a good way to get the rust out of the tank and keep it generally rust free?

Answer
Hi Joe.
I don't know who told you that the Kreem treatment doesn't work, but I have used it to reseal a badly rusted out tank with some 1/8th inch holes and it hasn't leaked once, since then.  That was 3 years ago.

They work as long as you do it completely as per the instructions.  Don't shortcut and it will work fine.

Good luck.
