Motorcycle Repair: Motorcycle wont start after storage, suzuki katana 600, fuel stabilizers

Question
I recently bought a 2001 Suzuki Katana 600 with about 6700 KM on it.

I put it into storage about 4 months ago with a full gas tank and the appropriate amount of fuel stabalizer, the bike now has about 9700 km.

I started the bike 2-3 times throughout the winter and it started up pretty good.  The winter is now over and i went to start it and the battery was dead.  So i jumped it off of my car. The choke felt like it was stuck so pushed it really hard until it dislogded! i hope that didnt cause any damage but when i move the choke lever up and down the wire does look like its moving.

When i push the starter i can her the starter going but there are no pops or exhaust nothing! no engine turning whatsoever, the damn thing wont start.

I really dont know what to do! I hope you could give me some advice please

sincerly,

Answer
Hi Davinder.
you want to pull and properly clean the carbs.  Check for rusted or sticking parts as well.

Starting the bike 2 or 3 times over the winter is only good if the winter is a month or two long.  Let's face it; winter is a bit longer than 1 or 2 months.  That bike should have been started up and run about once or twice a week.  That would have kept everything fresh and the battery charged.
BTW, you want to check the battery with a hygrometer to make sure that none of the cels have gone bad from being discharged.

As far as those fuel stabilizers are concerned, I hear from guys that put that in their tank and every year, without fail, they have bad fuel in the bike.  That is part of the problem.  With bad fuel, you may get the bike started and run it for a while, but it will not stay running for long.

Start with that and see what happens.
