Motorcycle Repair: Will not start, starter motor problems, worst case scenario

MY 1981 Yamaha 920 Virago makes a clicking sound when I try to start it.  The noise is comming from the relay next to the battery.  I replaced the relay and it seems to be making the same noise.  Am I hooking it up right?  How Can I be sure that I am and that the relay is my problem?

Hi Kirt.
 Check the starter motor and wiring for the starter motor.  The Virago has always been plagued with starter motor problems since day one.  pull the starter motor and clean the contact points in it.  that should fix the problem.  Worst case scenario, you will need to replace the brushes or the motor as a whole.
