Motorcycle Repair: cam settings, cam setting, compression stroke

Question
I have a '78 kawaski kz1000 and it has jumped time.I fixed the problem but i don't know how the cam setting is..I know that you have to count 28 links in between but I don't know how the cams are suppose to be in postion...do you have any diagrams or help you could send...Thank you

Answer
Hi Nick,

I can almost recall this from memory, but will refer you to to the service manual. Use my information at your own risk!

Allign the arrow of the EX mark on the exhaust cam with the front cylinder head surface (with cylinder #1 on TDC of compression stroke). Starting with zero, count 28 pins and allign the arrow of the IN mark on the intake cam with the 28th pin.

The above info is from memory and may not be correct.

Hope this helps. Making me show my age.
