Motorcycle Repair: Honda Aspencade warm starting problem, honda aspencade, grit sandpaper

Question
Hey Falcon,

I have an '84 Honda Aspencade.  It starts fine when cool.  The problem is that after the bike has run long enough to warm up it does not want to restart.  I have replaced the battery to no avail.  Before going to the expense and hassle of trying to put on a new starter I thought I would do a search on the web to see if I could find an answer.  Could you help me out?  I would greatly appreciate it.

Answer
Hey Greybeard.
Have you checked the starter motor internals for anywhere that the contact isn't clean?  In cold weather, electricity works better than in hot.  The same goes for electrical components.  They actually work better cool than warm.  If the contacts are dirty, then the heat could be all that it takes to prevent the juice from flowing properly.  If they are dirty, then just lightly sand them with thousand grit sandpaper till they are shiney.

Take a look and see what you find.
Good luck.
