Motorcycle Repair: 78 1000 goldwing, selinoid, starter motor

Question
Has a new battery and all connections seem ok.  It only clicks down by the selinoid when trying to start it.  Previous owner said it use to start ok.  Any ideas?

Answer
Hi Les.
Pull and check the starter motor.  I will bet that the contacts within the motor itself are dirty and need to be cleaned.  Particularly if that is the original starter motor.

The solenoid is clicking, so it is making contact.  However, there is also the possibility that the wiring from the solenoid to the starter could be shorted.  Check that before you try to pull the starter motor.

Start there and let me know what you find.
Good luck.
