Motorcycle Repair: 1982 cb750k, head pipes, exhaust pipes

Question
Chris,

I have an 82 cb 750k and am changing the mufflers from the 4-4 stock system to a 4-2 system with mac 4-2 slip-ons. what is the best way to do this? should i cut the head pipes and put the new mufflers on then? is there any adhesive i need to fasten the new pipes?  what special tools will i need to do the job?  should i take the whole exhaust system off the bike to work on it or can i just put the bike on the centerstand?  thanks.

Answer
Hi Spencer.
About 20 years ago, I did the same thing to my CB550.  I was a novice then and I found it to be very simple to do.

You will need NO special tools.
You shouldn't need to remove them either, although you may find it easier to cut the pipes that way.

Cut the exhaust pipes off just before the muffler and slip the new ones on.  Tighten properly and ride away.

As easy as a sledg-o-matic.  Maybe easier.

Good luck.
