Motorcycle Repair: Kawasaki 1995 EX Ninja 250 cc, exhaust gasses, header pipes

Question
Falcon, how are you. I've had this motorcycle for a while now but I've noticed lately that my bike is making rough starts. It would run with full choke only and RPMs are only about 3000-4000 on full choke. If I lower the choke the engine would stop. I also noticed before all this happened, the exhaust pipe that comes out right after the engine gets really hot and glows bright red/pink. I really dont know what's wrong with my bike. Any idea Falcon. Thanks in advance.

Answer
Hi Joey.
First thing you want to do is check the ignition timing and valve gap settings and the wear on the valve springs.

Then check the carb synchronization.

If the bike sits in storage for any length of time, like seasonal storage, then you want to pull and clean the carbs.

Also check for water in the fuel.

The heating up of the header pipes means that the exhaust valve is opening up prematurely, allowing exhaust gasses to escape while they are still burning.

Start with those and let me know what you get.
Good luck.
