Motorcycle Repair: no spark, starter button, stator

Question
I have a 2001 Yamaha Wolverine 4X4 with no spark.
I've checked all connections and grounds. They appear to be good. How do I go about checking the
stator and CDI? It will start if I push it off, but will not start with starter. I have a new battery and plug.

Hi Michael,

If the engine is starting by push-starting, the CDI or the stator is not causing the problem. I suspect the starter button at the handle, or the starter itself needs attention.
