Motorcycle Repair: Suzuki GS1100GLZ, suzuki model, pull down menus

Question
Hello, I am writing because the little piece that turns the tach cable is broken off.  I don't know what to do.  I was trying to put a new O-ring in and it snapped off.  Does this mean I need to take the whole gear box apart, or weld?  I am lost

Answer
Hi Shaun,

There should be no welding or other major work to repair the problem.

Visit the following link:

Look at the tachometer drive, part numbers 19 thru 27. The cable end usually becomes ruted and breaks as you described. If this is the case, remove the broken end and replace the cable. If this is not the case, indicate by part number what you are referring to. To see the entire GS1100GLZ michrofiche, visit: "www.bikebandit.com", click "OEM Parts" and select your bike from the pull down menus.
