Chris,

I have a 1985 honda goldwing and the rear tire sidewall rubs the frame on the right side when I'm driving over a dip or a bump in the road.

Chris,
I did check the items you suggested.   The problem was present with the previous tire and I changed it to see if it was the tire. The tire is the correct size for the bike   Second, the Right side of the goldwing does not have a spacer as it is where the holding tank for the oil for the drive shaft is located.  Any other suggestions?

Hi Ross.
Well, if there wasn't a problem with this prior to the new tire, then there could be one or two different things here that could be the problem.

1)  When the tire was replaced, the spacer on the affected side was placed on the wrong side or not placed back on the bike.

2)  The new tire is a slightly wider than the original.

If you've noticed, tires come in various sizes, which are identified by a 3 number set (i.e. 100/90-19).  Those numbers are the tire width, depth and rim size (in inches).

If the original tire was, for instance, a 140/90-16 and the new tire is a 150/90-16, then the new tire may not fit correctly because it is slightly wider at the tread area, which will cause it to rub the swingarm.

Those are the only things that match the problem based on what you've told me.  Double check it and let me know what you find.

Good luck.

Answer
Hi Ross.
Since everything else checks out, the only other thing that it may be, is that the wheel may not be properly seated on the transaxle assembly.  Outside of that, I really am not sure what else it could be.

I wish that I could be more help, but I cannot think of anything else that would help with this problem.

Good luck.
