Motorcycle Repair: bike wont go, smart alek, broken 3

Question
have a kawasaki v-star that sounds like its going in gear but the driveshaft wont turn, any ideas on what might be wrong? tried adjusting clutch, didnt help. thanks!

Answer
Hi Brian.
This sounds like one of a few things may have happened.

1)  Driveshaft is broken.  (least likely)

2)  Something in the shifter mechanism has broken.

3)  Something in the drivetrain and/or gearshift mechanism has come loose.

4)  Something in the clutch (in the engine, itself) has failed.

You may want to check with the manufacturer to see if there have been any recalls for you model regarding this type of problem.

That's the only things that come to mind.  Hey isn't the V-Star made by Yamaha?  (couldn't resist.  had to be a smart alek)  Actually, for that kind of problem, it won't matter what make the bike is.  The clutch and tranny work the same no matter what.

Good luck.
