Motorcycle Repair: motorcycle seat on 1997yzf600r, yamaha yzf600r, motorcycle seat

Question
my battery is dead on my 1997 yamaha yzf600r sportbike and i cant figure out how to get the seat off the bike!i called my local yam dealer and they said to turn the key to lock as this would disengage the clamps under the seat holding it on the bike.I tried this and it didnt work.I changed the plugs last night after 3 months of storage in my garage as i was getting a backfire when the bike was cranked. Now it seems my battery wont turn the motor over!

Answer
Hi Tom, Sometimes it helps to push down on the seat while turning the key. It may need a little persuasion.

You will need to replace the battery. Store the battery indoors if you live in a cold climate (winter storage).

The carburetors may need cleaning. Gas goes bad after a period of time and turns to a gel like substance. It eventually changes to a powder like substance. The gel formation is known as "varnishing" and the gel obstructs carb jets and passage ways.
