Motorcycle Repair: 1992 Suzuki Katana GSX600, suzuki katana, gsx 600

Question
I have a 1992 suzuki Katana GSX 600,4 stroke.
I have stored it for several winters without doing any type of special preperations for storing.
Just simply put it away and locked her up.
This year I brought it out, it had a tough start at first but eventually turned over.
The problem is, after the bike is warmed up, if I try to rev the engine, it will only go up to
5000 rpm and while still holding the throttle the rpm's drop rapidly down to almost nothing and eventually the bike will stall.(also happens when trying to ride it) If I try to start it up again is seems to have a little trouble getting started. I've never really done any tune-ups on it just regular oil changes. The bike only has 13,000 km on it.
Is there any thing I can do myself, before taking it to the shop to get charged an arm and a leg to fix the problem?
Your help is appreciated!

Answer
Hi Rick,

You must perform regualr service on you Kat to keep her runnig properly. This includes valve clearance adjustments and carburetor synchronization checks.

Q: Is the air box loaded (damp) with fuel, oil, or sludge? Can you describe the condition of the spark plugs?

I think a professional carb cleaning will get her running again, but other service is past due.
