Motorcycle Repair: jet kit, yamaha virago, correct speed

hi chris, i have a 94 1100 yamaha virago. i have cobra pipes on it.and i would like to know if jetting it would make it run better. it carbfarts somtimes and dies.

Hi Don.
 Backfiring has nothing to do with the carbs 99% of the time.  With the Virago, synchronizing the carbs and making sure that the valves are done right will correct the problem.

The Virago also has another infrequent problem, where it will, on occasion, drop one or more of the needle valves in the carbs, requireing you to pull the carbs apart and reseat them.   The symptom that indicates that this is the case will be that the bike is suddenly running rich on one or both cylinders and will not run at correct speed and power.

Start with those things and see what happens.
