Motorcycle Repair: 1973 GT550Indy Suzuki, fuel delivery system, ball point pen

Question
The bike is flooding. I had it running with the prime position plugged on petcock. I took the petcock apart and found a small spring in it and I don't know where it goes. when I draw vacume It lets fuel run out of one feed tube at a time and it does not stop. The spring looked like one you would get out of a ball point pen only half as long. Its not the one that goes behind diafram. Is there some kind of ball bearing check valve. Thanks for any help you can give David.

Answer
David,
You may want to consult the manual for that year.  I haven't worked on that model but it sounds like there is a vaccuum sys. incorperated into the fuel delivery system.  I'm sure that the spring is coupled with a ball forming a one way valve but the specific layout evades me.  Sounds like the system is disabled because of that check/one way valve.
Sorry I can't be more specific.
