Motorcycle Repair: oil change procedure, honda shadow 600, synthetic oils

i have a 96 honda shadow 600 and it needs an oil change. i've worked on cars before but never really worked on bikes. i know how to change the oil but i dont know what kind of oil to use and how much to use. can you help me? would this also be the same for all bikes at this displacement? any info would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.

Hi Thao,

I recommend the service manual for basic maintenance needs. It usually pays for itself with the first use.

Use a premium band engine oil. Select the weight according to your environment's temperatures. Avoid using synthetic oils unless the label specifies motorcycle use.
