Motorcycle Repair: Fuel petcock, salvage yard, honda shadow

Question
Bill,

I  recently bought a 91 Honda Shadow.  The petcock was broken off so I cannot get to my reserve fuel.  My question is can I somehow route the fuel lines so that I can use my entire tank of gas?  Thanks in advance for your answer.

Answer
Leon, you didn't say if it was a 600 shadow or 1100 shadow...

New petcock is $53 for the 600 and the petock stem is $19.

$63 for an 1100 model, although they don't show it as a 1991 model.

The only way around the problem is to remove the petcock and cut off the extension inside. That will probably not allow the fuel screen to stay in place, though.

Otherwise, you would have to rig up some kind of fuel fitting that would fit the metric threaded end on the tank and just run it straight out the bottom of the tank.

Check with a local salvage yard, if possible for a good used one or just buy a new one and be done with it.
