Answer
Hi Brad.
You may have a couple of minor problems that, alone are no biggie, but together are a real pain.

1)  Go through the electrical system with a fine tooth comb.  You are looking for any shorts, arcing spots, breaks or ground outs in the wiring as well as bad, corroded or loose connections.  Use a multimeter because you could have hidden breaks that you will not find otherwise.  And make sure that you wiggle the wires while you are testing.  If you have an intermittent short, then you are not likely to find it any other way.

2)  Clean the carbs completely and thoroughly.  My guess, if you left fuel in the tank over the winter, then you have varnish in the entire fuel system.  This WILL mess up fuel flow and carb operation.  If it is the case, then reseal the tank as well.

3)  Lastly, you could have one major problem, since the bike is so old.  Have you ever had to do any work on the pistons, rings or heads?  If not, then you could have compression loss.  Make sure that the valve gap and timing is correct and then check compression against the specs in the manual.  If they are not within specs, then you may need new pistons or rings or both.

Start there and let me know what you find.
Good luck.
