Nissan Repair: Nissan Header, muffler shop, catalytic converter

Question
I have a 2006 Altima 2.5 that has a clogger pre-catalytic converter. Muffler shop say's 795.00 to fix. I have read that I can replace the pre-cat with a header and spacer on the bottom sensor. Have you heard of this being done to get rid of the bad pre-cat? It is much cheaper and still has the rear cat.
Thanks, Brad

Answer
Hi Brad -

Yes, I have heard of this being done, but I don't know what the emissions laws are in Tennessee, some states will not allow it.

There is a reason for the system the way it is, and although you can skate around it, I would not recommend it. This may also reduce the life of the second CAT.

Hope this helps -
