Nissan Repair: Nissan Altima 2006 2.5, crank shaft, nissan altima

Question
I have a 2006 Altima that will run fine for days and then die at a red light. It will start right back and run fine, then it will die at the next red light. It will run fine and I will start to pass someone and it will cut out real bad. It does not have any lights on and has been doing this for about a month. It will think that it has stopped dying and then I will pull out and it will die again. About a year ago, it had a slight skip at interstate speeds and the light cam on. I replaced the crank shaft positioner, cam shaft, and speed sensor. So i do not think it is one of those. Do you have any ideas what it could be?
Thanks, Brad

Answer
Hi Brad -

If the engine light is not on - it could be one of 2 things, the fuel pump, or the ignition module in the distributor.

If the problem happens only when the engine is at operating temperature, then I would lean towards replacing the ignition module. There is no accurate way to test the module.

You can test the fuel pump, however you will need a pressure gauge. Remove the fuel line right at the fuel rail to check the pressure. To check volume, hold a graduated container under the removed hose end while the ignition is on. You should get at least a cup of fuel in about 3 seconds.

Hope this helps -
