Nissan Repair: Key stuck in my 2007 nissan pathfinder, 2007 nissan pathfinder, silicone lubricant

Question
QUESTION: How do I remove my key from my 2007 Nissan pathfinder ? It starts fine, turns off fine, but I cannot turn it to "lock" or remove it, so I have to use my remote to lock and unlock my car. How can this be fixed??

ANSWER: Hi Nicki

First of all try spraying some silicone lubricant into the lock where the key enters, and around the cylinder (the circular section around the key). Move the steering wheel while working the key back and forth.
If this does not free it up, then you will have to remove the ignition cylinder and replace it.

This is done by removing the plastic housing around the steering column to access the igntion lock assembly. Comes in 2 parts. The ignition switch, and the ignition cylinder. You will need the latter. If you are doing this yourself, get back to me and I will give you the step by step.

Please let me know if the lubricant works.

Hope this helps -'

QUESTION: We did the first step and it did not work. we are going to try one more time ;) If this does not work, will it be expensive to do the second option with the replacement?

Answer
Hi Nicki -

The second option is relatively inexpensive. The only thing is you will have to carry around another key just for the ignition as it will be a new key. You may take the new cylinder to a locksmith to match it up to your old key but some feel it is not worth the effort.

It is relatively simple to replace just the cylinder. Once you remove the plastic housing, you will expose the ignition assembly. Put the key in the "ACC" position, and locate the small button on the side of the cylinder housing. Press it in, and the cylinder should slide right out. Install reverse of removal.
