Nissan Repair: 2002 Nissan Maxima Fuel Gauge, nissan maxima, gas gauge

Question
Hi Calvin,

My question is regarding a 2002 Nissan Maxima. The fuel gauge is not working correctly, indicates no gas. Replaced fuel sender in tank, filled car with gas, gauge moved from empty to full. Now the gauge has not moved from the full position after 100+ miles of driving. Can a faulty instrument cluster be the culprit for the erratic readings? A failed NH emissions reading is what started this. Any thoughts?

Thank you.

Answer
Hi Steve -

Faulty instrument cluster - could be but rare.

I would check the sending unit again. There are some units that need to sit in a cradle in the tank for the float to work properly. Or perhaps the float is hung up.

Please check these two and let me know -
