Nissan Repair: CAR STOPS SUDDENLY, nissan sentra, fuel pump relay

Question
QUESTION: I HAVE A 04 NISSAN SENTRA 1.8L WHILE DRIVING CAR SUDDENLY STOPS, MOST OF THE TIMES IT TURNS BACK ON QUICKLY, BUT AT TIMES IT DOESNT. WHEN IT STALLS I NOTICED THAT THERE IS A METAL BOX ON THE FLOOR BOARD ON PASSENGER SIDE THAT CLICKS BEFORE IT STALLS, AND CLICKS WHEN CAR TURNS BACK ON. I DONT KNOW WHAT THIS IS, CAN ANYONE PLEASE TELL ME WHAT IT IS, AND WHY MY CAR JUST STALLS AS WELL.

ANSWER: Hi Ralph -

Can you tell me if you have the check engine light on?

If not, it may be the ignition module located in your distributor.

The clicks you hear are probably from the fuel pump relay signaling the pump to start/stop.

Hope this helps -

QUESTION: YES THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON

Answer
Hi Ralph

OK. The first thing we need to do is find out which sensor is causing the engine light to come on. This is done by using an OBD reader. Most auto shops have one, as well as Autozone. The OBD will download a code that will tell you what circuits are malfunctioning and consequently be our starting point for diagnosis.

There are literally hundreds of possible codes, so this first step will eliminate 90% of the guesswork.

Let me know when you have the code, and I can tell you what it means.

Thank you
