Nissan Repair: Nissan sentra 2000 no SES light, nissan sentra, fuel pump relay

Question
QUESTION: Hello, 2000 sentra 1.8 automatic, wouldn't start one morning. Would cracking but no start.  Then noticed the fuel pump would not run. With the key in the on position, there is no SES light. I hooked up a code reader and  it would not link up. i thought a bad ECM (ECU), bought a used one and but did not work.

There is no power at fuel pump but ground is there , the fuel pump relay does have power, but it is not reaching to fuel pump and no SES light.  Checked all fuse and they are working fine.

do you think i need to check the ecm relay first ? but am having trouble finding it or what else should i do.  Car Crank but no start no fuel pump sound and no SES light.

Please help

Thanks,

Gill

ANSWER: Hi Gill -

Usually if you turn the ignition on, the SES light should illuminate. If it does not, or if it stays on and does not turn off after a few seconds, the ECM is bad.

The fact that your fuel pump is not getting power is also an indication of the ECU.

The used ECU you have - Was it taken from a car that was running? Is there proof that it is a working unit?

Hope this helps -

QUESTION: Aloha,

Thank you so much for the reply,

I bought this ecu from a Junkyard  and seller said it was working fine when they took it off but who know if they are just saying to sell.

I do not know what to do next as i have already paid 200 $$ for this junkyard ECM, is there anyway i can check/test the ECM is working or not.

I would love to denote for you if my car get fixed as it will be a great support.

Please help me to find out the main issue .

When i turn on the key there is no SES light comes at all but when my car was running fine it use to come on with key to ON.

Answer
Hello -

Yes, definitely if the light was on when ignition on when it was running, and now it does not go on when ignition is on, only endorses the fact that you have a bad ECU. Was there some type of guarantee from the place you bought it from? I would chase them for your money back.

There are some places that repair ECU's. You will have to google to find the closest one in your area. Most of them ask for a "core", which is you give them the bad ECU and they will hand you a rebuilt one for a much lower price. However if you still have the original ECU, and the one you bought, give them both and they might cut you a deal.

Hope this helps -
