Nissan Repair: Strange Front End Problem, nissan altima gxe, nissan altima

Question
Hello Mr. Iwashita,
I have a 1997 Nissan Altima GXE, 4 cyl., 2.4L, automatic with 254,000 miles. The car has been virtually trouble free in the 3 years I've owned it. But 3 months ago it seemed to develop a strange problem--often, only when I'm backing up the car's front tire (passenger side) bounces when I'm backing up, cutting the wheels. If I don't feel it bouncing then a rubbing sound can be heard. I had the tires replaced but made no difference. A few months ago the brakes were replaced.
However, it otherwise drives great and don't notice any other problems. What could the problem be? Thank you in advance.

Answer
Hi Lisa

Couple things to check. One is the CV joint (outer and inner).perhaps it is hanging up. Also when the brakes were replaced was the caliper overhauled too? Best thing to do is jack the vehicle up and spin the tire by hand to see if there is any hang up. Renenber to spin it counter clockwise.

Hope this helps.
Let me know how this goes.

Aloha
