Nissan Repair: steering wheel lights, stearing wheel, electric technician

Question
I have a 2004 Nissan Max SL and at night, when you turn the head lights on, the stearing wheel controls for the radio/cruise and all that would illuminate, not the buttons themselves, but looked like the light would come from behind the buttons. Now the two arms attached to the steering wheel, the right and left, that control the wipers and blinkers no longer illuminate at night when the headlights are on. Took it to nissan dealer and they basically called me nuts b/c they say those arms and stearing wheel controls do not light up. I am NOT delusional, I know for a fact that these lite up at night! Please help

Answer
Hi there, normally there is no illumination on the steering controls and I cannot find a diagram that indicates that. However, you SL could be one of a few special ordered ones. In this case, the fuses need to be checked with a test light, the wiring harness of the steering column that feeds headlights, directionals, hazard, etc needs to be checked for continuity and also the light switch. This is a job for a qualified auto-electric technician whom can determine the cause of the problem.
Hope this helps :)
