Nissan Repair: RE: Engine Timing Mark / Wont start, damper pulley, nissan cefiro

Question
A Pleasant Good morning!  I have a Nissan Cefiro 1995 model with a VQ20 engine A32 series which I top overhauled due to busted cylinder heads.  The problem was over heating, cleaned the radiator, replaced the thermostat valve, but still it runs hot and the water flow from the radiator without the cap is that it boils.  After replacing the head gaskets and installed back all parts, them kablam it won't start. check all electrical connections and still no power supply for the engine.  Asked a dealer mechanic and said that the timing mark could be mis positioned.  Is there a proper timing mark for this?  Need help so badly........

Thanks in advance Iwashita San.

Answer
Hello -

First thing to do is check the alignment. Hand turn the engine until you have aligned the line on the damper pulley with the timing pointer. Once that is done, check to see if the distributor rotor is pointing at the #1 cylinder on the distributor.

If not then the timing belt needs to be taken off and sprockets re-aligned with their respective lines.

Hope this helps -
