Nissan Repair: engine cutting out, torque converter clutch, nissan n13

hello bill my car engine cuts out when i start the motor revs drop right down, most of the time,sometimes revs go back up to normal to, same thing happens comming to a stop after driving ,motor runs well when driving along though timing is set right ,car is a 91 nissan n13 1.8 and the please can you help thanks

A number of reasons can cause that. If the car has an automatic transmission, it could bet that the TCC (Torque Converter Clutch) is locked. Another reason is a vacuum leak. A vacuum leak will cause the motor to die when it's on idle.  If that's a carbureted engine, it could be a bad adjustment or the choke does not open. If it's fuel injected, it could be a problem with the ECU. First check for vacuum leaks and then let me know.
