Nissan Repair: Car trouble, nissan pathfinder, time engine

I have a 2002 nissan pathfinder SE and I am noticing a loud noise coming from the hood whenever I eccelerate the gas. I don't think its the muffler cause of where its coming from, so I don't know what the problem could be. What are your thoughts?

Hi Jake -

Since I am not at liberty to listen to the sound, I would appreciate it if you could be as specific as you can when describing the sound. Is it metallic? or knocking? sound like someone shaking a paint can? Squealing? Is it only when you accelerate and it goes away? Does it happen all the time? engine hot? cold?

I know its a lot but the more info I get, the more accurate the diagnosis
