Nissan Repair: 1995 nissan altima, double filament, nissan altima

Question
how do you fix the brake lights on a 1995 nissan altima. !

Answer
If both sides brake lights don't come on when you apply brakes we start from the simple things first, the fuses. If all fuses are good we have 3 primary suspects. The first one is the brake light switch which is located on the brake pedal and it's connectors, usually 2. The second one is the hazard switch. The brake lights circuit also runs through that switch if the light system uses one light bulb on each side that serves as tail light, turn signal, and brakes. (double filament bulb). The third one but very important is good grounding. To test the latter, use a self powered ohm meter. Remove the bulb and connect one test lead to where the power goes in the socket. (in the middle) Connect the other lead to a good ground. Do not apply brakes. If you have continuity or if the meter has a light and the light comes on, then the grounding is okay and the circuit passes current as it should. If not, re install the bulb and with a wire and someone applying the brakes, connect one end of the wire to a good ground and the other end to the bulb socket. If the bulb shines, then the ground is faulty. However, it is not unusual the both light bulbs have failed. Simple things like that do happen! Hope this helps.
